What is Scrubble?
Scrubble is a Chrome extension that helps you visually communicate changes to AI. Instead of describing which part of an image you mean, you mark the exact area and attach a short note to each mark — then send the annotated image and the matching instructions back into the same conversation.
How do I open Scrubble?
There are four ways:
- Right-click an image in a ChatGPT or Claude conversation and choose "Use Scrubble on this image". This is the main way.
- Hover an image and click the blue Scrubble badge that appears on it.
- Click the Scrubble icon in the Chrome toolbar, then choose Scrubble latest attachment, Scrubble visible screen, or Open image from computer.
- Press Alt+Shift+S to Scrubble the latest attachment or image in the conversation.
Which platforms are supported?
Scrubble currently works with:
- ChatGPT — chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com
- Claude — claude.ai
Those are the only supported platforms today. Scrubble needs Chrome 116 or newer.
How Scrubble works
- Open Scrubble from an image in your conversation.
- Mark the areas you want to talk about — arrow, box, circle, freehand or highlight.
- Add a short note to each mark.
- Press Done.
- Scrubble puts the annotated image and the matching instructions into the message box of the same conversation.
Scrubble fills in the message box — it does not send for you. Read it over, add anything else you want, then press Send yourself.
Your marks are numbered so the notes line up with the image — A1, A2, A3 and so on. If you Scrubble a second image in the same message, its marks are lettered B1, B2, B3, so nothing gets confused.
Scrubble doesn't appear when I right-click
- Check Scrubble is installed and enabled at
chrome://extensions. - Check you're on a supported site — chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com or claude.ai.
- Refresh the tab. Chrome only loads Scrubble into pages opened after it was installed or updated, so a tab that was already open won't have it yet.
- Make sure you right-clicked the image itself, not the space around it.
- If the image is awkward to right-click, use the fallback instead: press Alt+Shift+S, or click the Scrubble toolbar icon and choose Scrubble latest attachment.
The image went in but the instructions didn't
If Scrubble can't type the instructions into the message box, it puts them on your clipboard and tells you so — click the message box and press Ctrl+V. The same applies to the image itself: if it can't be attached directly, Scrubble copies it to your clipboard so you can paste it in.
